چکیده

Abstract Carbon 1s excitation of methane, CH 4 , has been studied in the gas phase using ion trap integrated with photon–ion instrument at PETRA III/DESY and soft X-rays from beamline P04. The created photoions are stored within so that further steps can undergo reactions neutral methane molecules. ionic photoproducts as well reaction products thereby mass-over-charge analyzed by an time-of-flight spectrometer. Besides photoions, product ions up to three carbon atoms found. In contrast experiments vacuum ultraviolet radiation, especially highly reactive a small number hydrogen such C 2 mathvariant="normal">H + ${{\rm{C}}}_{2}{{\rm{H}}}_{3}^{+}$?> 3 found, which important precursors for larger hydrocarbons C 6 H . Possible production routes on basis model considers probabilities photofragmentation first subsequent chemical step. indicates high degree fragmentation photons energies around 280 eV is favoring these products. results measurements show like be generated single collision ionization methane. suggest might planetary atmospheres, usually not taken into account. However, due large cross sections involved, they have influence even when corresponding photon flux rather small.

X-ray induced dimerization of cinnamic acid: Time-resolved inelastic X-ray scattering study

A classic example of solid-state topochemical reactions is the ultraviolet-light induced photodimerization of α-trans-cinnamic acid (CA). Here, we report the first observation of an X-ray-induced dimerization of CA and monitor it in situ using nonresonant inelastic X-ray scattering spectroscopy (NRIXS). The time-evolution of the carbon core-electron excitation spectra shows the effects of two X...

Optimum driving a Z-pinch for soft X-Ray lasers

A capillary plasma z-pinch as an alternative active medium of soft X-Ray lasers was studied experimentally and theoretically. The theoretical analysis was based on the self consistent solution of the so called “snow plow” model. The dynamics of pinched plasma is determined by the capillary parameters and by the time dependence of electrical current passing through it. The current time dependenc...

The Columbia University proton-induced soft x-ray microbeam.

A soft x-ray microbeam using proton-induced x-ray emission (PIXE) of characteristic titanium (K(α) 4.5 keV) as the x-ray source has been developed at the Radiological Research Accelerator Facility (RARAF) at Columbia University. The proton beam is focused to a 120 μm × 50 μm spot on the titanium target using an electrostatic quadrupole quadruplet previously used for the charged particle microbe...

Soft-x-ray projection lithography

Soft-x-ray projection imaging is demonstrated by the use of 14-nm radiation from a laser plasma source and a single-surface multilayer-coated ellipsoidal condenser. Aberrations in the condenser and the Schwarzschild imaging objective are characterized and correlated with imaging performance. A new Schwarzschild housing, designed for improved alignment stability, is described.
